Taxes in 2023: 10 Things You Need to Know
Yes, it’s still January, but April will be here before we know it. That’s why it’s never too early to start preparing to file your taxes, especially if you’ve had a life change or two. (For example, if you bought an electric vehicle, you could get a nice credit.) This week, we dive into 10 things you need to know before you file your income tax return in 2023, from how big of a refund you may receive to the importance of selecting the right professional preparer. And before you hire a professional to help you, you’ve got to do your research. Ask friends, family and colleagues for recommendations. Read online reviews. Once you find someone you like, it’s time to check their credentials before you chat or meet. For most of us, the deadline to file federal income taxes this year is April 18, so the sooner you get started, the more time you’ll have to gather everything you need to file on time. You got this!

Women’s Mental & Physical Health In The Workplace

When we talk about mental health, we have to take a holistic look at everything in our lives. If we really want to grow in our careers, we have to connect our bodies, our minds, and our money. This means addressing the importance of women’s health in the workplace. In this week’s episode of the HerMoney Podcast* we’re doing just that, with Joy Altimare, Chief Revenue Officer of EHE Health. We dive into women’s health post-Roe, and why it’s necessary for employers to get involved in the discussion. We also get real about women’s mental health, because women are twice as likely as men to develop depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and PTSD — all of which have a huge impact on our ability to provide for ourselves and our families. Joy reflects on the progress the U.S. has made on burnout since the pandemic, and she offers some tangible advice for how to prioritize your mental wellbeing by setting boundaries at work. (Yes, it’s okay to say no.)

Making Your Work Schedule Work With a New Baby

What does it mean to be a “working mom” in 2023? This week, HerMoney writer Lindsay Tigar shares a deeply personal journey through launching a business and then welcoming a daughter to her family. The first few months weren’t easy. When she felt dread, guilt and overwhelming feelings about going to work, she quickly sought help. “I started by hiring a career coach,” she explains. “Then, I grew confident enough to let go of clients that were difficult to work with.” Setting up some boundaries came next: “I don’t check email from 4 until 9 p.m. each afternoon. That’s my time to pick up my daughter, spend time with her and then enjoy dinner with my husband.” While she’s still figuring out how to make her schedule work, she knows she’s not alone. Take a look at how she’s found room for all her priorities, and is finding fulfillment with motherhood and a career she loves.
What to Consider When Adopting a Senior Pet
Together with

While some families are eager to adopt a puppy or kitten that will grow alongside their family, other pet parents might not have the energy to keep up with a rambunctious little ball of fur. Sadly, we know that many people put their older pets up for adoption when they can no longer care for them in the way they deserve. But thankfully, we also know that many people love adopting older four-legged friends. The benefits of adopting older animals is that they typically don’t need to be trained or housebroken, and there’s something incredibly special about signing up to be an older animal’s caretaker, and committing to being by their side for the long haul. But while adopting a senior pet can be incredibly rewarding emotionally, it can also require a greater financial investment. Here’s how to make it work for you.
